Taking root in Tacuati
I’m safely ensconced in Tacuati now, where I’ll hopefully remain for some months. I had a pretty pleasant bus trip, and got to see more of the scenery than I did on my previous night voyages. That’s unfortunately more than I can say for my suitcases, which got motor oil leaked on them. But the good news is that only one item (a pair of fairly impractical white Capri pants) will be unsalvageable for daily wear.
Just as well. I was needing new garden pants, anyway. And I do have some very ambitious gardening plans. If all goes well, I’ll be passing many grubby hours in those capris.
I´m going to leave my phone number up for another week, in light of the technical difficulties people have been having getting in touch.
The Guaraní word of the day is ao poi, which is generally used to describe the traditional hand-embroidered Paraguayan dress shirt. Its literal breakdown is ao, meaning clothing, and poi, meaning fine. We were all wearing ao poi in our training class photo, posted a few entries back.

so sorry to hear about the motor oil… I know that was not a pleasant welcome. I wanted to let you know that I had received my house warming gift. It is beautiful and I really appreciate the effort it took and look forward to finding a place of honor for it. I am planning on buying a phone card soon so I hope to talk to you in the near future.

Hey Mary Kennon W,
wassssssssup? We, the Raymon family, are pleased to read that you are doing so well. It sounds like a phenominal experience so far, and we can’t wait to increase our vocabulary as the months fly by!
News here…Carrie has started the 4th grade, David 3rd. They are happy with new teahers, classmates, ect. David ’s football season has commenced, and he LOVES it! He plays linebacker for the “Bulldogs”. Carrie is taking advantage of a special 4th grade privilege - free after school art lessons with her wonderful art teacher. She also participates in the lower school chorus.
I will have my senior art show this semester, so I have been painting like crazy in order to put together the best show I can. I am very excited!
Bill is studying for his CFP (certified financial planner), and he will test in November. His company, A.G. Edwards, has been bought by Wachovia Securities, and he plans to stay.
Whew! We are busy and thankful to be busy with good things.
I just viewed your list of things we can send. I’m so excited to put something together for you! From waxing strips (Sally H’s, of course), to offensive movies and trashy magazines…I can’t wait!
Seriously, you look great and sound happy, and I know you are excited to be working.
We will be checking in soon.
Besos,
Molly (Moll Doll)

Liam sent us some pictures but did not really identify anything. I hope all is going well. You are doing a good thing! Kerry Winters, Liam’s mom.
